ACECQA is an independent national statutory authority that assist governments in implementing the National Quality Standards and Framework for early childhood educations and care throughout Australia.

National Law & Regulations

National Law

The National Law sets a national standard for children’s education and care across Australia.

​

​

National Regulations

The National Regulations support the National Law by providing detail on a range of operational requirements for an education and care service.

​

​

In Victoria the regulatory is the Department of Education and Training.

 

They are responsible for:

 

  •  granting approvals, including provider and service approvals

​

  • assessing and rating services against the NQS - working with ACECQA to promote continuous quality improvement and educating the sector and community about the NQF

National Quality Framework

The National Quality Framework provides a national approach to regulation, assessment and quality improvement for early childhood education and care.

The VEYLDF (Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework)  adopts a comprehensive approach

to children’s learning and development

​

The VEYLDF is supported by eight Practice Principles:

The VEYLDF:

  • Recognises health as a crucial enabler for

    learning and development

  • Recognises wellbeing as a prerequisite for and an outcome of learning

  • Upholds the image of the child as a right holder and a competent learner with capacities to learn from birth

  • Sets outcomes and practices to guide early childhood professionals in their work with all families and their young children from birth
